CCR Questions - CLOROX Commerical
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues ?
Clorox is advertising for its effective disinfectant wipes with their catchy slogan, “making clean-up & disinfecting a breeze”. They also use a vibrant background complementing Clorox’s vibrant container. Clorox uses a powerful point, “trusted by moms,” to help reassure the viewer the product is trusted and to narrow the target audience. Another quality point of this ad is that the wipes are at eye level. This allows the viewer to feel equal with the product improving its effectiveness. Through this ad, you feel the need to achieve. Clorox wipes will help you accomplish those boring tasks of cleaning up by making them fun as well. These Clorox wipes are mainly targeted at moms that are always cleaning up messes after their kids. The wipe allows them to carry on with their days with confidence, not having to worry about the hassle of having an ineffective wipe, and mostly having a germ-free surface or area. These commercials show small children having fun, making messes and then shifts to cleaning up the germs being left behind by these children. This shows how beneficial these CLOROX wipes are for cleaning up such residues and messes.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text ?
In order to engage audiences socially, I decided that I would use social networking websites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Youtube. As people scroll through Twitter and Instagram they can get a brief ad post about CLOROX Cleaning Wipes and how beneficial it is because we are in a global pandemic, and it is important to clear objects and other surfaces of germs with these wipes. Furthermore, On Youtube, ads for this product can be seen while watching a video that is monetized. Facebook had multiple ways to share ads, and allows you to sponsor posts and build audiences, and overall this can help market certain products in an effective way. Promoting is rather easier on Facebook, simply because when a person likes/shares an ad, it shows on their followers feed. People then start a chain reaction of shares and the product gets more exposure from these promotions. When discussing about real media text, however, I would chose popular news stations such as CNN, ABC, Fox News, MSNBC, etc. I would choose to display ads on these channels because amidst the pandemic, people are looking for more and more way they can stay safe away from viruses. Also, people are always watching the news for updates about the pandemic. Other popular cleaning products such as Febreeze, Glade, Charmin and Bounty are also common ads that shown on these television networks. I believe that large amounts of people will be intrigued by these ads.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project ?
IMovie was an extremely useful editing software I learned to use. Some of the tools such as the voiceover and split clip option allowed me to create the best version of my commercial. Secondly, other tools i've used, such as the filter and music audio file allowed me to emphasis my overall use of my product. Even though I have recorded all of my clips using the IPhone camera, I still made it out so it could be the best quality it could be. Usually commercials are made with high tech cameras, but I can say i've definitely made it work. I used a tripod with a ring light attached to it, and I found that it made my commercial overall look great. Using IMovie, though, was easy for me to learn and it was not a hard process to say the least. I was sufficient in making my comercial, even though it was not the best. However, I was quite satisfied with the outcome seeing as though it was my first time filming and editing a commercial of some sort. My production skills showcased my developments as I realized what would work better for my commercial and tested myself to ensure I could create something that targets towards my audience rather than just being something I liked.
4. How did you integrate technologies -- software, hardware and online -- in this project ?
I utilized many different mediums to produce my commercial. I made sure to integrate software, hardware and online websites. Throughout me making this commercial, I understood the true potential of working with these resources and how they turned out for me. In Hardware, I used my IPhone camera to film, and I used a tripod with a bright ring light attached to it, and my Macbook to edit my commercial when it was done. For the software, I only used IMovie, since it was the easiest to access because it came on my Macbook. After I filmed all of my clips on my IPhone, I emailed them to myself so I can open the email on my Macbook and export the clips from there onto IMovie. For online websites, Primarily, I used Youtube to aid in helping to do my commercial. I got a clip from Youtube of a slurping sound effect, which is shown in my commercial. Also, I cut a clip of the background music I wanted to use that is played throughout my commercial.
